The CCNA 200-301 course prepares students to work in Networking with the ability to configure and maintain a small home office network. On completing the course, they will be in a position to sit the Cisco CCNA exam 200-301.

The course will be delivered online with 48 hours of instruction. Cisco Packet Tracer will be used for practical labs. The course teacher is a CCNA instructor.


Network Fundamentals which include network devices such as routers and switches, analysis of frames in a network, IPv4 and IPv6, TCP and UDP.

Network Access which focuses on Wireless LANs and VLANs.

IP connectivity will focus on dynamic and static routing of IPv4 and IPv6.

IP services includes DHCP, DNS, NAT, File transfer protocols and secure shell communication.

Security Fundamentals covers protection of networks against attacks such as DHCP and ARP spoofing and protecting against STP attacks. The use of VPNs and IPsec are explained in detail. Access Control Lists will be introduced and the student will learn how to configure them to protect the network.

Automation and Programmability introduces the student to Software Defined Networks and the use of Application Programming Interfaces – APIs.

There are no examinations on this course. The programme will prepare you to take the CCNA exam which you can register for by following this link:

John Sexton

John Sexton is a Chartered Engineer Electronic Engineering. He has been a Cisco CCNA instructor for 15 years. He holds a Master’s degree in Engineering from DCU, obtained in 1998.

John originally worked in the Telecoms sector before moving into Network Engineering in the nineties.

In 1998, he joined the lecturing staff in the Institute of Technology Tallaght, now part of the Technological University of Dublin. He lectured in Network Engineering for 18 years. In this time, he designed and delivered Networking modules at NFQ levels 6, 7 and 8. He has also delivered the CCNA Routing and Switching course for over 10 years.

He is currently a visiting lecturer for the Université de Toulouse II Jean Jaurès.

He has acquired a lot of experience teaching groups of varying levels of education.
