The SNA combined QQI Level 5&6 course is delivered by our sister college The College of Progressive Education and provides the learner with an in-depth understanding of children with additional needs, the role of the Special Needs Assistant, and Irish Legislation. This course aims to equip the learner to gain employment in the field of SNA. The combined course consists of three modules and has a 60-hour work placement requirement. Completing work experience will add value to the learners overall learning experience. The purpose of this course is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to work efficiently and effectively, under direction with young children with additional needs and to equip the learner in the theory and practice underpinning the education and care of those who present with special educational needs. Completing the combined SNA course will ensure the learner gains valuable insight from all three modules which will stand to the learner when seeking employment.
Minimum age is 17 Years. All learners must have a good standard of English.
Currently the Department of Education and Science stipulates that all those gaining full-time employment in schools must have at least 3 passes at Junior Certificate or equivalent.
Students must attend at least 80% of classes to graduate with either the Diploma or Certificate of Attendance unless a serious and verifiable reason for further absence is provided.
If completing the course online, attendance and participation is tracked through Moodle.
A pass grade on the written assignment will be required for awarding of the Diploma.
Students are require to do a 60 Hour work experience during the course if they are not already working in the area.
